Kogesawa Plum Grove
Kogesawa Plum Grove

Ura-Takao is famous as a prime spot for plum blossoms, and the "Takao Baigo Plum Festival" is held every year in early March. Located at the furthest end of the area, "Kogesawa Plum Grove" is home to approximately 1,400 red and white plum trees that bloom exquisitely. (The name is also sometimes written as "Kokesawa" in Japanese.)

Routes and Access

Kogesawa Plum Grove is located just before the final stop of the bus bound for "Kobotoke" (the nearest stop on the way there is "Ooshimo";on the way back, the "Ume-no-Sato Iriguchi" stop is closer and available).

After passing Hikagezawa, you will see a tunnel for the Chuo Main Line. Turn right immediately after passing through it to reach the grove.

Route junction

Turn right after the tunnel for Kogesawa Plum Grove. Turn left for Kobotoke.

Route junction

Entrance to Kogesawa Plum Grove. The grove is located near the Chuo Expressway.

The roads in Ura-Takao are very narrow and there is no parking available, so we recommend using the bus bound for "Kobotoke" from the Takao Station North Exit.

The roads around Takao Ume Village, including Kinoshita-sawa Plum Grove, are narrow and have no parking facilities.
We kindly request your cooperation in using public transport when visiting the gardens.
Furthermore, the roads around the plum grove are residential streets. Please refrain from noisy behaviour and walk in single file.

Given its location, it is easy to stop by while visiting Hikagezawa or Kobotoke, so we highly recommend it if you haven't experienced it yet.

Also, for those with hay fever, the mountains opposite are cedar forests that turn yellow with pollen, so please make sure to take proper precautions.

There is a video available showing all the plum groves, including Kogesawa, filmed in March 2022, so please use it as a reference.
